Sophie has a distinctive signature style that juxtaposes the raw with the refined. Spaces are layered and colourful, using a natural palette of materials and textures to deliver honest and authentic interiors.
Never one to follow the rules or be influenced by current trends, Sophie draws inspiration on her love of colour, contemporary art, modernist furniture, fashion,travel, nature and historical periods to deliver an eclectic and elegant richness to each space. Sophie creates authentic tension by mixing the masculine with the feminine, the classic with the contemporary, seamlessly blending diverse periods
of furniture.
With a firm belief that every room should be an honest narrative of those whom inhabit it, Sophie has an innate ability to listen to her clients’ vision, and translate this into creating their dream home. She supports her clients throughout the entire design process, helping them to bring their vision to life, and believes that it’s not just about the destination- it’s about the journey. “A home should be place that is not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but most importantly functional and practical for those whom live there."
Sophie’s relationships with local craftsman, artisans and suppliers plays an integral role in ensuring that each project is bespoke, unique and one of a kind.
SOPHIE D'ASSISI
Born in Melbourne, Australia, to first generation Greek parents, Sophie had a curious eye for all things beautiful from a very young age, and was born a creative. By the age of nine, she owned her first Singer sewing machine, and sought great pleasure in designing and creating her own garments, and embellishing them in sequins.
Sophie grew up in a tile studio that her parents successfully owned and managed for over fourty years, and it is this early exposure that she believes has fostered her love of all things colour, texture and pattern. In addition to this, her late father Vasilios was an Architect, builder and self-taught artist, whomundoubtedly had a huge influence on the designer Sophie is today. “ I spent many hours as a child watching my father design beautiful tessellated tile patterns and thinking to myself, how wonderful would it be to one day call this work... ”
In 2004, Sophie graduated with a Bachelor of Podiatry, and after practicing for a few years and running her own practice, she decided to pursue her lifelong passion for Interior Design by attending the Mercer School Of Interior Design. She graduated in Interior Design and Decoration with high appraisal, and shortly after established the eponymous Sophie D’Assisi Interiors studio, which has grown to become one of Australia’s high-end design firms for luxury interiors.Today, Sophie’s unique look is recognized for it’s rich tapestry of layered materials, tones and textures, and it’s incorporation of different styles of design- interiors are elegant and sophisticated, with a cutting edge. She creates homes that are very international looking, and that could easily be located anywhere in the world.
Sophie is a mother to two beautiful boys, Luca and Marco, whom she proudly states are her greatest achievement to date.
